Vote Results

Good evening, adventurers!

The results of your vote are in! About 83% of you voted to continue the finale in early January. Next week, we will give you a timeline of what to expect in January, so we can all be best prepared for it.

Here is a screen shot of the results:

We'd like to thank you again for your continued patience and interest in the story we're trying to tell. We don't want to overdo it, but we're still pretty sorry about November, and we're really happy you've stuck with us. We'll be working hard to make sure this finale runs as smoothly as possible, and that you are given many opportunities to shape your last adventure.

In preparation for the finale, we'd like to give you the holiday break's time to do some character homework! If you were here for Wonderland, you may be familiar with the format; we're just asking you a few questions about your characters' bonds in and out of the universe.

This homework isn't completely required, but having your input would be much appreciated!

Character Name:
Canon:

Bonds---

Home: Describe in a short paragraph a strong bond your character has with someone from their own world, and how that bond helped your character develop.

Balance: Describe in a short paragraph OR link a thread showing a bond between your character and someone else in their time in Balance, from their homeworld or otherwise. Add a sentence or two about how your character was changed by this bond.

NPC: Optional! However, if your character has had a meaningful interaction with an NPC, detail it here! These can be named NPCs from NPC threads OR from RNG threads.

Core strength: After your character's time in balance, what do you think is their core strength?

Core flaw: What is your character's biggest weakness?

Fear: What one thing/person is your character most afraid to lose?

Character Name: guido mista
Canon: jojo's bizarre adventure

Bonds---

Home: giorno giovanna. mista's bond with giorno helped him to find purpose in his life, mature, become more directed, and take greater care with his own life for the sake of others.

Balance: sayori. thread. knowing sayori has cemented mista's role as a caretaker while also allowing him to open up and let himself be taken care of in turn. he has come to see his purpose as more complex than he had previously and to think of his future differently, not distanced from his previous purpose but with spaces carved out for a more well-rounded existence.

NPC: i don't remember her name i am sorry but the hot archer from lyrabar. she and mista talked a bunch and he learned about her history with gay pirate whose name i also don't remember. he encouraged her to confront some of her demons and it was neat. they did not make out.

Core strength: loyalty

Core flaw: impulsiveness

Fear: sayori

Character Name: Sans
Canon: Undertale

Bonds---

Home: Toriel. Sans bonded with her over bad jokes through a door and even through his general apathetic depression tried out some things like making pies because of her. He made a promise to not hurt and keep an eye on the human even though he hadn't met her and the human was the anomaly, and after Frisk broke the barrier and everyone started living on the surface they remained good friends who tell each other awful jokes and generally harass each other. They're both good for each other's particular issues.

Balance: Sayori. Sans has pretty much adopted Sayori into his family at this point, and looks out for her quite a bit. They know each other's issues and Sayori is absolutely willing to call Sans out on them. Sans will go to actual effort for her, and he wants her to be happy. She is very important to him.

Papyrus! He deserves his own section but he's going to go here. Light of Sans's life, the most important and best brother in the whole multiverse. When it comes to Balance, even without memories Sans found himself hanging around Papyrus a lot. As they tried to figure out where they stood with each other, Sans ended up actually letting Papyrus in on his thought processes more than usual, and he is going to tell Papyrus about that whole time loop thing. Sans would do anything for Papyrus.

NPC: Lucretia. Sans relates to being wildly in over your head and feeling extremely hopeless about it, first of all. He also relates to lying to everybody about everything all the time. She also reminds him a bit of Asgore when it comes to that whole "leader who made some snap decisions and is now desperately treading water" deal. Also she brought him back to life twice, that was nice of her. He'd call her his friend.

Core strength: Patience--it's his main soul color trait! But Balance has made that patience more active; he's more willing to patiently actually work on something rather than just sitting around.

Core flaw: Sloth--while obviously this applies in the sense of laziness, I actually mean it more in the sense of the deadly sin: depression/apathy.

Fear: Papyrus, always

Character Name: Papyrus
Canon: Undertale

Bonds---

Home: Flowey. Papyrus was starting to lose hope that he'd make any progress training with Undyne to join the Royal Guard, leaving him without the prestige and popularity he craved... and then a little yellow flower came along, knowing just the right things to say to encourage him, via flattery, advice, and predictions about what would happen. The flower laid out a plan for peacefully resolving the whole barrier thing by befriending the next human to come along (after a little bit of threatening and challenging them, just to get them ready for the difficulties ahead), and Papyrus took to the plan eagerly. What could be more hospitable than a proper show for the next human, with entertaining banter along the various puzzles, a fight full of monologuing about his feelings, and then befriending them before shooing them on? Of course, the plan to get them to befriend Undyne didn't quite work out. The human and flower both disappeared, and Undyne took over the underground... so Papyrus just took away the reminder to keep his own positivity up, and went along with visiting the ex-queen with his brother instead.

Balance: Sans. From his homeworld, and is more specifically his brother! Through most of the months on Baisla, both had severe enough amnesia that they couldn't really remember each other, and were actively trying to get to know each other and remember themselves. Papyrus's first impulses were of confusion and trying very hard to be polite, so it was a little surprising to realize their natural bantering pattern was one of affectionate insults and rambling. Very recently, the desperate push to keep their spirits up through the relic retrieval mission broke some floodgate of memory, and now they have their pasts again... and they'll get to reckon with the fact that they were both more honest with each other when they didn't remember each other. Whoops. That's probably fine, right? Maybe they can just brush all this under a rug and go back to normal...

NPC: Angus, the boy detective who's collaborated in reassurances and mystery solving, offered bureaucratic guidance and fashion feedback, confirmed existentially horrifying time stuff, experienced the skelebro bullying tagteam, and offered Papyrus a little power as a gesture of friendship. I think the skeletons have adopted him. Finally, Papyrus can push a little brother around.

Core strength: Integrity - even when Papyrus toyed with dangerous powers and manipulating people, his motives have fortunately stayed centered on friendship and helping others out. He's a source of positivity, and helped hold the relic retrieval group together.

Core flaw: Pride / self-absorption. He's the most supportive narcissist you'll meet, but he is very self-absorbed and weird in a lot of ways, and his trailing after Sans to hassle him anchors a lot of what could be dangerously whimsical energy.

Fear: Himself. Probably the answer should be Sans, or all his friends, or something, but - thanks in part to their retconned dad - part of what Papyrus fears most is being forgotten and irrelevant.
